First I wanna ask you (as I usually do) how is Notre Dame formed?
Ha ha, kinda strange to go back and talk about that stuff now when I've
ended it after 7 years. I put out Creepshow Freakshow Peepshow as a farewell
gift to all our fans, and because they've been asking about a live forever.
Why this name? Why Notre Dame?
I was looking for a name for my new horror metal/shock rock vehicle back in
'97 and I happened to lay eyes on an old withered original movie poster
starring Lon Chaney in The Hunchback of Notre Dame. I felt it represented
very much of what I was aiming for at that time.
You said once, that Notre Dame without Vampirella, is not Notre Dame.
Why do you think she was so important for the band? Why you don't follow
with the band with the bassist girl you used for the lasts concerts?
When I said that, I meant it more from a visual point of view and for the
liveshows in particular. I guess I could have just continued with the last
line-up I had. With these great people I did a few shows which turned out
fantastic, I might use them when I do liveshows with my solo thing in the
future. basically I was fed up with much of the bad luck and the
consequences of all the idiots that I had been involved with such as record
labels, distributors, promotors etc etc I felt I needed a fresh start and an
attempt to right all wrongs. I wanted to explore other musical turfs and a
little different direction, And like so many times before I needed to move
on.
You promised to all the fans a live album. Here we have Creepshow
Freakshow Peepshow. What can you tell us about it? (remember guys, you can
order it sending an e-mail to whitetrash_records@yahoo.com )
Good that you point that out Olga, there still are some albums left, but not
for long so hurry up...you may even have it signed by me and the 3 stooges
if you want. The album is recieving only the best possible rates and reviews
in the metal media all over the world, so I'm pleased. I think it's great
and it captures the band at the very prime of our creative and productive
peak. The album shows exactly what we sounded like back then, raw and real.
We got much appreciation for our liveshows and not just from the visual
aspects. People kept saying that we sounded so much better live and I think
this album proves just that. This is the real deal, lots and lots of people
seem to appreciate that it's real and not the nowadays so polished
overdubbed product.
You are working actually with Mats Leven at S&M and at Dream Evil too.
Will we see new stuff from those bands? Will you tour with them?
Right now I'm working on new material and laying the final touches on the
lyrics for my new Dream Evil songs. We're doing pre-productions at the
moment and will be entering the studio as fast as possible. Next week we'll
be in the studio to record a great idea I have for a single/video,...you 'll
see. Me and Mats will get together soon to pick up where we left off beore
he went to tour America with Therion. We've written and recorded rough demos
in my house for about 7-10 songs or so, we'll be doing vocals next. Great
material, let's just hope we both can find time in our busy schedules to
make this project happen.
I have read a words from you, answering to the question: What would
you be if not a musician?. Remember that? You said "something creative or
dead!". Do you live for the music?
I do. But there are also so much in connection to the music that I love too,
the art and image of it and so on. You know I design all stuff like album
covers, stageshow and... you name it. I was a KISS kid remember.
Do you want to talk a little about the Mercyful Fate and King
Diamond's days? How do you remember those times?
I loved being in King
Diamond at that time, when I joined the band in August ´89 my whole life
changed in an instant moment. I was a Mercyful Fate fan when I was 14-15
years old and it was an honor to be asked to join them, but unfortunately
the newer material wasn't in my opinion as innovative and awesome as the
earlier stuff. We had some good times on the road but I felt an increasing
urge to be allowed to contribute more creatively
and there was no place for me there. I just had to move on.
Will be (some day) the Theatre Des Vampires open again or the Notre
Dame's bells will chime no more?
I had some offers for Halloween shows this year from promotors who didn't
know I had called it quits, I turned them down but who knows for the future.
Frankly I despice all these silly reunions, but to appear once every year on
Halloween strikes me as a super cool thing. I might add, if the
circumstances and offers are substancially and economically good. We are
definitely the ideal Halloween event band, our stageshow is second to none,
and that includes Alice Cooper,WASP,Marilyn Manson... yeah whoever!
Returning to Dream Evil, will you visit Spain on tour?
Yeah, I sure hope so, I'm sure we'll be doing festivals if not a whole tour.
Snowy, thank you very much for answering this interview. Good luck
with all your projects and your band Dream Evil.
Muchas gracias Olga
heers!!
